KSBR and OX2 reach agreement on construction of Korkeamaa wind farm
KSBR (Keski-Suomen Betonirakenne Oy) and renewable energy provider OX2 have reached an agreement to construct the Korkeamaa wind farm in the municipality of Soini, in South Ostrobothnia.
The agreement covers the infrastructure and design for a 17-turbine wind farm, which includes earthworks, foundations and cabling. The maximum turbine height is 230 meters, and their combined capacity adds up to 108 megawatts. The wind farm’s annual energy production clocks in at 326 gigawatt hours, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 65,000 households (5,000 kWh/year).
The project got the go-ahead in early December. Site planning and the electrical and foundation designs are currently underway.
Construction early next year
KSBR will start their construction work in Korkeamaa at the beginning of next year with tree removal, excavation, and earthworks.
– We’re familiar with the area – we were also OX2’s partner on the Korkeakangas wind farm project near Karstula, which was completed a few years ago, says project manager Tuomas Pukinkorva.
– This project is essentially a continuation of our work with the same client, as we built the infrastructure and substations for OX2’s Lestijärvi wind farm. That project was handed over this year.
KSBR’s part of the Korkeamaa construction contract will be completed by the end of 2026.
– We’ll continue to make turbine cable connections until the end of June 2027, estimates Tuomas Pukinkorva.
Nearly 40 wind farms under their belt
KSBR has previously been involved in the construction of a total of 38 wind farms and over 520 foundations, which generate a total of approximately 2,100 megawatts of renewable energy.
– We are delighted that our long-term partnership with OX2 will continue with the Korkeamaa wind farm project. We thank OX2 for their trust and excellent collaboration. For us, it’s important to implement projects safely, responsibly, and at high quality. It’s particularly rewarding to work with a partner who shares our values, states KSBR energy and civil construction director Janne Kananen.
