KSBR appointed as the new main contractor for the Rajamäenkylä wind farm

KSBR (Keski-Suomen Betonirakenne Oy) has been selected as the new main contractor for OX2’s Rajamäenkylä wind farm project in South Ostrobothnia.

Rajamäenkylä area will host 54 wind turbines with a total capacity of 367 megawatts. Of the turbines, 42 will be located in Isojoki and 12 in Karijoki.

The annual energy production of the Rajamäenkylä wind farm will be 1.25 terawatt-hours, equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of 250,000 households (5,000 kWh/year). The project is expected to be commissioned in 2028.

Works will resume immediately

The previous main contractor working in the area filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. KSBR will continue the project under an agreement that covers earthworks, foundation construction, and cabling across the site.

– The Rajamäenkylä project is highly significant for us. We’ve had several successful cooperation projects with OX2 as the client, which certainly makes it easier for them to rely on our expertise as the main contractor and our ability to carry the project through to completion, says Janne Kananen, KSBR’s director of energy and infrastructure.

KSBR will launch the earthworks, foundation construction and cabling immediately during March–April.

– We have an experienced and skilled workforce capable of responding quickly to a wide range of changing situations. Key personnel have already been appointed, and we have taken responsibility for the project’s execution. Our goal is to hand over the project according to the original schedule, says Kananen.

Part of a major project portfolio

Renewable energy company OX2 is investing approximately 700 million euros in two wind power projects. In addition to Rajamäenkylä, OX2 is also constructing a wind farm in Halsua.

– KSBR is familiar to us and a well-known company overall, and our discussions with them have been smooth. KSBR will also continue working in cooperation with Maarakennus Hautala, which serves as a subcontractor for the project. All these factors led to our agreement regarding Rajamäenkylä, notes Jaakko Penttilä, project manager at OX2.

KSBR began constructing wind power projects in 2010. The company has been involved in more than one-third of all wind power developments in Finland. Current ongoing projects include, among others, the Korkeamaa wind farm and its associated battery energy storage system located in South Ostrobothnia.
