Three pillars of KSBR’s growth: our people, expertise and a shared goal

Over more than 20 years, KSBR has grown into a multidisciplinary organization whose footprint can be seen, among other things, in around one third of Finland’s wind farm infrastructure.

CEO Marko Leppänen opens the office doors in Oulu in the morning. At the same time, KSBR’s offices also come to life in Lappeenranta, Pihtipudas, Nivala, Vantaa and Northern Sweden.

Founded in 2004, KSBR (Keski-Suomen Betonirakenne Oy) has grown into an organization with four business sectors and more than 200 employees. Leppänen himself started at KSBR as a summer employee in 2010 and joined the company permanently in 2019. He praises the personnel as highly specialized professionals.

– Our growth, successful projects and reliable reputation are largely built on their expertise, he says.

Four strong business sectors

Having its own committed personnel and in-house construction equipment helps KSBR keep projects on schedule, within budget and aligned with plans.

High-quality execution is reflected in an excellent workload situation. KSBR’s most recent projects include the Korkeamaa and Rajamäenkylä wind farms, battery energy projects, wastewater treatment basins, data centers, and the parking facilities of LogoHub and Koskensilta.

KSBR operates in four sectors: energy, infrastructure, industrial construction and commercial premises. Expanding into multiple business areas has been one of the company’s key success factors.

– If one sector is experiencing a quieter period, another supports it. Everyone in the organization works together toward the same goal, Leppänen explains.

The growth company, originally from Pihtipudas, has long had international business in its sights. In 2024, KSBR established its subsidiary KSBR Sverige, which got off to a fast start. The company quickly gained a foothold and received positive feedback from demanding industrial projects in Northern Sweden.

That same year, KSBR also acquired Takanen MR Oy, a company specializing in the rental and maintenance of earthmoving equipment.

One third of Finland’s wind farm infrastructure

A significant milestone in KSBR’s history was becoming one of the first companies to start building wind farms in 2010. Today, KSBR has constructed approximately one third of Finland’s wind farm infrastructure.

According to Marko Leppänen, KSBR particularly excels in projects with challenging schedules and demanding requirements. In addition to wind farm infrastructure, these include data center projects and the construction of wastewater treatment basins. Experience has also demonstrated that KSBR meets the critical quality and resource requirements of industrial construction.

These claims are backed by numbers: last year’s customer satisfaction survey shows a recommendation score of 5.5 out of 6.

– Trust has to be earned. We are pleased that we have been able to meet our customers’ expectations. By staying committed to quality, reliability and the continuous development of our personnel’s expertise, we believe we are fulfilling our role, Leppänen states.

Profitable years

KSBR selects its projects carefully, with profitability as one key prerequisite. This also benefits customers by ensuring high quality, reliable schedules and accurate cost estimates. According to Leppänen, the strategy has proven successful.

– The past few years have been challenging for the construction industry, but we have managed to deliver projects profitably. The current year also looks promising, and we are ready to continue growing, the CEO says with a smile.
