We don’t try to force a square block into a round hole

KSBR has strong competence in building a range of parking facilities without compromising on efficiency and quality. Our aim is to increase this business segment more systematically, and with even better management than before.

Kasimir Kvist manages the construction branch of KSBR, which also covers parking facilities. He says that the parking business has grown steadily along with the company’s growth and is now a notable part of overall operations.

“I believe the growth will continue. We have established ourselves in the industry and we want to stay in the top three in the future, as well – preferably in first place, of course. This is our goal once housing construction begins growing again and the halted parking facility projects get going,” Kvist states.

KSBR operates in all of Finland, but the company’s core market is in Southern Finland. Especially in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, the established operators, the developers of parking facilities and the clients are already familiar with the company’s high quality and strengths.

“Currently, our operations are largely focused on residential parking facilities, but we also have a lot to offer for parking solutions in larger facilities, such as malls, sports centers, business parks, and underground parking.”

Kvist believes that the industry is seeking efficiency largely through repetition and standardization. However, different production methods allow for efficiency in different ways.

“When zoning an urban environment, I feel like the idea that all parking facilities should be identical boxes is very remote. I believe the architects and city planning officers share my views. At KSBR, we’re used to casting complex structures in place efficiently while fulfilling the planners’ and architects’ wishes for the building’s shape and suitability for the environment. The end result can be round, triangular, or almost anything else, instead of just a box.”

Quality comes from openness and community

Kvist also emphasizes KSBR’s premium, extensive expertise that the company realizes without compromises – and with a human touch.

“That includes the courage to champion things and drive them forward with determination. The human touch and transparency also involve us having a low hierarchy and a low threshold for communicating with each other, which extends from the CEO to the builders. Even though the company has rapidly grown into a relatively large one, we have maintained the clarity and straightforwardness of our operations. It’s important for us to achieve things with high quality and efficiency through an organization that’s as flat as possible and with as little bureaucracy as possible.”

A concept for more effective service

KSBR has launched a project to conceptualise the construction of parking facilities in a more product-oriented way.

“We already have a basically good product, that is, strong skills in designing and building parking facilities. Using a narrow definition, a good product is one you can easily replicate countless times, such as a parking garage with pre-determined features and shape. But we don’t look for that. Our concept builds in flexibility, which we can use to respond to various needs, whether they come from the client’s requests, the city plan, or other demands on the site. Each parking facility is unique,” Kvist states.

“Productization is not only about the building, but the business as a whole – meaning how we operate, manage design processes, make quotes, and implement projects. We want to lift our operations to a new level where we can better respond to the market and be involved in the upcoming economic upswing.”

According to Kvist, clients and partners will see the concept reflected in an increasingly knowledgeable and efficient service.

“We will design increasingly better parking facilities within the given constraints. We’ll respond to each client’s individual needs and challenges. We’re not trying to force a square peg into a round hole.”
