KSBR’s cooperation with wind turbine supplier Nordex Group continues

16.09.2020

Keski-Suomen Betonirakenne Oy will implement the infrastructure of the Mastokangas wind farm located in the municipalities of Raahe and Siikajoki as an EPC supply for all the Balance of Plant works for the German wind turbine supplier Nordex Group.  Nordex delivers the whole wind farm as a full EPC supply. Mastokangas is a purely market-based project for which no subsidies shall be used.

At the Mastokangas site, as at all KSBR sites, the coronavirus is strictly controlled. Special arrangements have been put in place at the construction sites to protect the health of all parties and to ensure the normal operation and safety of the construction sites.

KSBR’s Project Manager Teemu Kemppe emphasizes the importance of KSBR’s good internal guidelines which have been found to be functional and effective in the fight against the coronavirus, and also pays special thanks to site staff, employees and partners for their excellent implementation and compliance with the instructions.

Earlier last year, KSBR delivered to Nordex infrastructure BoP works as an EPC supply for 18 turbine wind farm in Finland. KSBR was selected as Nordex’s partner largely on the basis of previous good cooperation. For KSBR Mastokangas is the third cooperation project with the Nordex Group and already the second project in which KSBR acts as a total infrastructure supplier to Nordex.

– We are very pleased to be able to strengthen the cooperation between the Nordex Group and KSBR on this project. At the site deforestation works are ongoing and civil works have been started. Of course, engineering has been ongoing for a longer period of time, says Kemppe.

KSBR performs the wind farm infrastructure works as a so-called EPC supply, which includes the engineering, procurement and construction of the wind farm’s road and lifting areas, wind turbine foundations, substation, main transformer and wind farm internal electricity and communication networks.

– We are delighted to have been awarded the Mastokangas EPC project in March 2020. After a detailed selection process, having trusted partner KSBR onboard we are excited in delivering another successful project as “One Team” safely, says Deane Hogg, Senior Project Manager, Nordex Energy GmbH (Finnish Branch).

The Mastokangas wind farm consists in total of 12 wind turbines and produces emission-free renewable energy for the Finnish electricity grid with a nominal capacity of 68.4 MW.

– This project is a good reflection of KSBR’s commitment to a repeat Customer based on trust. For KSBR, the Nordex Group is one of the important strategic partners with whom we strive for sustainable long-term cooperation on our journey to internationalization, says Juha Tuominen, Director of Industry and Wind Power.

The project is a continuation of KSBR’s strong expertise in the wind power market and in particular as a turnkey supplier of wind farm infrastructure. Currently, KSBR is building the infrastructure of four different wind farms in different parts of Finland. Infrastructure finishing works are ongoing at Piiparinmäki wind farm and at Korkeakangas all wind turbine foundations have been concreted and wind farm cabling, overhead line and substation works are underway. In addition, KSBR recently released news about Välikangas wind farm where earthworks are already progressing with a good pace and the site is currently preparing to start the construction of wind turbine foundations.
